Trunk Show...my virgin voyage

A wet and chilly weekend up here in Vermont was the perfect backdrop for my first annual - mehopes - Pre-holiday Party and Trunk show. I felt like Cinderella at the ball.

Incredible treats: my husband made anise-maple mouse, chocolate cake and an assortment of french cookies. I made a lot of jewelry, and many new friends. It was heaven. I only wish you had been there...unless of course you were, in which case, it was so nice to see you!

pulling on the past...vintage finds

These new designs are inspired by vintage pieces that needed - screamed for - recoupling with other "mature" pieces. I rewired them into cuff bracelets, a funky cocktail ring and a glorious bib
necklace that just kills on the decolletage. This winter why not engage in some warmed up history?

blown...and forged...

I have had these beads festering in my imagination for some time...they come from the Netherlands froma very cool Etsy dealer called Sunyno (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5146806&ga_search_query=sunyno&ga_search_type=seller_username) (sorry about the long link...no time to shorten it). I finally saw my inspiration ear wires on another Etsy maven of style: betsy3 (htp://betsy3.etsy.com) (that better?). She had a pair of similar wires and it made me think: "I can do that", or at least I can try...so I did. I'll be listing them soon - but they are here first.

I used gold filled, steel and sterling silver to make the earwires and findings. The sterling, where it is oxidized - is done so by using the egs from my flock of organic, city-dwelling laying hens. It's better for all of us (except the eggs perhaps). I love the contrast of the gunmetal and the clear glass.

STRUT Fashion show!

This year I was invited to decorate the ladies at the Sweet Lady Jane French Connection Trunk Show here in Burlington on October 1. It was a helluva night:

The ladies were just amazing! The clothes divine. And the decorations hung just right...

I collaborated with Josie Furchgott-Sourdiffe..and exquisitely charming and talented frock designer. This is what we did.

Vintage Finds bracelets

Enamel earrings, antique buttons, rhinestone finds...lockets...skeleton keys...All of these, and more, are wired to vintage chains to make one-of-a-kind bracelets. Each one is a melange of colors and is never for the faint of heart. Want a showstopper piece? Want to wear something that brings you JOY and sparkle? These are the pieces that get attention, comments and inquiries. Wear them to the park, the grocery store...and out to the opera.

cuff her...leather...antique button closures

a cordovan leather cuff of the softest possible repurposed leather, are cut wide, angular, rolling - and decidedly depeche mode. each is finished with an antique glass button closure. this a simple design that makes a very broad gesture of confidence. These are made to order one-of-a-kind leather cuffs. they are comfortable, bold and a little tough.

nesting and gardening...and smelling the blooms

A very cool
local online magazine called "Phoebe" ran a nice article about esightler Jewelry...care to read it? It's here at: http://www.phoebemag.com/Issue2.html...If you don't want to read about esightler Jewelry check out the very hot pictures of Myra Flynn modeling local threads and the Roller Derby Girls kicking each others arses...I think that I have a new career in mind. It's not modeling. Recent work is mostly about nestbuilding: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=24706655 and the Garden series of rings: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=24511486).. I have becomes fully fixated on making little "nests" in rings, necklaces, something to set on the windowsill or to carry in your pocket...or put under the pillow...Actually, don't put them under your pillow...even though they are tightly woven they're still a little pokey. I have been making several of these for mom's with their childrens' birthstone colors represented in freshwater pearl eggs. For those of you who have walked along with me in this life for some time the "egg" theme has been with me for awhile (like, since I hatched...) Anyone remember the art show at The Daily Planet with the painting of "Jen's Egg?" (named by my friend Jen and featured in Seven days). How strange and comfortable to have it be reincarnated in this new medium. I have also been sending monthly jewelry shipments to Savannah, Georgia, where a dear friend from forever is selling my baubles in her boutique/salon on Forsythe Park. The salon is called "Park West". If you are nearby stop in and see Kim Cabrera - or look for her and the salon on TV. Her salon employs "Ruby", a woman whose life and weight loss is being documented on the Style Network. Kim is also going to be in another reality show, a salon v. salon type show...hard to imagine her doing anything other than being a rocking roller derby girl (see above). The spring - a wet one over in here in Burlington - is smelling all musty, lusty and bloomy...that early morning east smell of the world yawning and scratching off the sleep. Perfect for winding found shiny wires and pearls into something new. What are you doing to wake up?
